What Are We Saying

THE YEAR OF FULFILLMENT – Part 6

“What Are We Saying”

Psalm 138:8 ESV

“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;    your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.    Do not forsake the work of your hands.”

Genesis 17:1-8 NLT

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai, ‘God Almighty.’ Serve me faithfully and live a blameless life. I will make a covenant with you, by which I will guarantee to give you countless descendants.”

At this, Abram fell face down on the ground. Then God said to him,“This is my covenant with you: I will make you the father of a multitude of nations! What’s more, I am changing your name. It will no longer be Abram. Instead, you will be called Abraham for you will be the father of many nations. I will make you extremely fruitful. Your descendants will become many nations, and kings will be among them!

“I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you.And I will give the entire land of Canaan, where you now live as a foreigner, to you and your descendants. It will be their possession forever, and I will be their God.”

Sarai Is Named Sarah

Genesis 17:15-18 NLT

15 Then God said to Abraham, “Regarding Sarai, your wife, her name will no longer be Sarai. From now on her name will be Sarah. 16 And I will bless her and give you a son from her! Yes, I will bless her richly, and she will become the mother of many nations. Kings of nations will be among her descendants.”

17 Then Abraham bowed down to the ground, but he laughed to himself in disbelief. “How could I become a father at the age of 100?” he thought. “And how can Sarah have a baby when she is ninety years old?”

Abraham - “father of many”

“If you ever get to where you say it, and believe it!”

Mark 11:22-24 AMP

22 Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. 23 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. 24 For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.

How This Works – What Neuroscience has discovered

1. What You Focus On, Your Brain Strengthens and Scripture Calls That Faith

Neuroscience:The brain has neuro plasticity, it literally rewires itself based on repeated thoughts, focus, and attention. What you consistently think about forms neural pathways that shape behavior, expectation, and action.

Biblical truth:Faith isn’t passive belief, it’s focused trust on what God has said.

“Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.” - Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

“We walk by faith, not by sight.” - 2 Corinthians 5:7

When we fix our minds on God’s promises instead of fear, our brains begin to expect what God has spoken. Faith trains both the heart and the mind to move toward obedience.

2. Words Shape Reality - Your Brain and Body Respond to What You Say

Neuroscience:Spoken words activate emotional centers in the brain and influence stress hormones, immune response, and decision-making. The brain responds differently to spoken belief than to silent thought.

Biblical truth: God designed words to carry creative power.

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” - Proverbs 18:21

“By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command. - Hebrews 11:3

Biblical confession isn’t positive thinking, it’s alignment. When we speak God’s Word, we’re training our minds and emotions to submit to truth over circumstance.

3. Expectation Prepares the Brain - and God Responds to Expectant Faith

Neuroscience: The brain releases motivation chemicals (like dopamine) when it anticipates a future reward. Expectation primes action, perseverance, and resilience.

Biblical truth: God often moves where there is expectant faith.

“According to your faith let it be done to you.”-  Matthew 9:29

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”-  Hebrews 11:1

Expectation doesn’t force God, it positions us. When we expect God to move, our minds and actions align with His promises, and we step into obedience instead of hesitation.
