Trust in the Middle
Trust in the Middle
Psalm 138:8 (ESV)
“The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.
Genesis 12:1-4 (ESV)
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” 4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
Genesis 15:1-6 (ESV)
After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.”
2 But Abram said, “O Lord God, what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”
3 And Abram said, “Behold, you have given me no offspring, and a member of my household will be my heir.”
4 And behold, the word of the Lord came to him: “This man shall not be your heir; your very own son shall be your heir.”
5 And he brought him outside and said, “Look toward heaven, and number the stars, if you are able to number them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.”
6 And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.
Genesis 18:10-14 (ESV)
10 The Lord said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife shall have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door behind him.
11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in years. The way of women had ceased to be with Sarah.
12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?”
13 The Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?’
14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”
Genesis 22:7-8 (ESV)
7 And Isaac said to his father Abraham, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?”
8 Abraham said, “God will provide for himself the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So they went both of them together.
Abraham stands on the mountain with Isaac. The provision hasn’t appeared yet, but trust speaks anyway: “God will provide.” Faith talks before evidence shows up.
Phillipians 1:6 (AMPC)
6 And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
TRUST DOESN’T REQUIRE A MAP, ONLY A CALL
If God has spoken, obedience can begin even when direction is unclear. Abram not knowing where he was going. He didn’t follow a map, he followed a voice.
GENESIS 12:1 (ESV)
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you.
Hebrews 11:8 (ESV)
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
DELAY DOES NOT CANCEL GOD’S PROMISE
Even with Abram, years passed, he aged, circumstances stayed impossible, but God remained faithful. Waiting is part of the process, not proof of failure. Abraham waited for decades for Issac; and promise of numerous descendants.
HABAKKUK 2:3 (AMP)
3 “For the vision is yet for the appointed [future] time, It hurries toward the goal [of fulfillment]; it will not fail. Even though it delays, wait [patiently] for it, Because it will certainly come; it will not delay.
Ezekiel 12:28 (AMP)
28 Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God, “None of My words will be delayed any longer. Whatever word I speak will be fulfilled completely,”’” says the Lord God.
WHAT YOU PLACE IN GOD’S HANDS, HE CAN PROVIDE FOR.
On the mountain, Abraham trusted God with the promise itself. True trust believes that God can sustain, restore, and provide, even in the middle.
PROVERBS 3:5-6 (ESV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
PSALM 37:5 (ESV)
5Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.
