Eat and Live
Eat and Live
John 14:6
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Manna from Heaven – God’s Daily Provision
Exodus 16 (NLT, highlights)The Israelites, after being delivered from Egypt, found themselves in the wilderness and quickly grew hungry and discouraged. God, in His mercy, responded with miraculous provision:
“I’m going to rain down food from heaven for you…” (v.4)
The food was manna, described as “white like coriander seed and tasting like honey wafers” (v.31).
They were instructed to gather only what they needed daily — any excess rotted overnight (v.20).
On the sixth day, they were to gather double in preparation for the Sabbath rest (v.22-23).
This daily miracle continued for forty years until they reached the Promised Land (v.35).
Psalm 78:23–25“He opened the doors of heaven. He rained down manna for them to eat; He gave them bread from heaven. They ate the food of angels! God gave them all they could hold.”
The Road to Emmaus – Luke 24:28–31
“As they sat down to eat, He took the bread and blessed it. Then He broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him…”
The Upper Room – Luke 24:35–36
“They told how He was recognized by them when He broke the bread. While they were still talking… Jesus Himself stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’”
Note:
“In both cases, their eyes were opened in the breaking and serving of the bread, and Jesus enters the room at the point when they are talking about the bread.”
John 6:35 (NKJV)“I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
THREE THOUGHTS ABOUT “THE BREAD”
1. TRUST IN THE DAILY TRANSITIONS OF LIFE
God’s provision may not come how or when we expect, but His timing is perfect. Trust Him not only to provide, but to sustain you in wilderness seasons.
2. PASS THE DAILY TEST OF GATHERING AND CONSUMING THE BREAD
“Everyone had just enough.” (Exodus 16:18)
Substance comes from daily gathering — whether much or little, each one received what was needed. The manna lasted 40 years, proving God’s faithfulness in the long journey.
“God gave them the food of angels.” (Psalm 78:25)
3. EAT THE DAILY BREAD AND LIVE
Deuteronomy 8:3“…that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord.”
John 6:35 (NKJV)“I am the bread of life…”
WHAT IS LIFE?
LIFE – A state of divine vitality — full, genuine, active, vigorous.A life blessed in God, devoted to Him, now and eternally —experienced by those who trust Christ and sustained by His Word.
